After graduating from the Fashion Department of Antwer's Royal Academy of Fine Art and working briefly with Bernard Wilhem, designer Carolin Lerch created the label Pelican Avenue in 2004 to challenge fashion norms and expectations. Each piece in her collections is intended to question standard fashion ideas while maintaining wearability, and Carolin uses a multimedia approach by utilizing video art, photography, and performance, to express the collections in full. For Project White T-Shirt, Carolin created a curtain of layered and interconnected t-shirts whose original sleeves and collars are retained. In this way, one can still "wear" the curtain. The t-shirt curtain questions and expands the possibilities of and the relationship between garment and function, and asks society to rethink its distinction. *Photograph of designer Carolin Lerch was provided by photographer Maria Ziegelböck. | |||
